The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta early Friday, but his condition was not immediately available.
Police say they believe the man stabbed the woman to death, then tried to kill himself. They described the two as about 60.
Avondale Estates Police Sgt. Lynn Thomas says daughter and granddaughter of the couple were home sleeping at the time of the stabbings but were not involved in the altercation.
