Deadline to register to vote is Monday

Monday, Oct. 4, is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 2, General Election, said Shea Hicks, the Chairperson of the Board of Elections and Registration.

In addition, if you have moved or changed your name, you must update your voter registration information to your current address or your current name by the Oct. 4 deadline, Hicks said.

The November 2, 2010 General Election is quickly approaching, and the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office is preparing for

Hicks said she is expecting a 50 percent turnout for the General Election.

“As we prepare for this election, I would like for every voter in Gordon County to prepare for Election Day, too,” Hicks said. “To participate in the Nov. 2 General Election, you must be registered to vote by Monday, Oct. 4. You can go the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office, located in the Gordon County Annex Building at 101 S. Piedmont St., Calhoun, to registered to vote or to update your voter registration information.”

The office hours are 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m..

Early voting began on Friday, Sept. 17 and the last day to cast your ballot early or in advance is on Friday, Oct. 29. To vote early you will go to the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office, located in the Gordon County Annex Building.

All statewide offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and secretary of state, state legislative offices and U.S. House of Representatives seats are up for election this year.

There are several local races on the ballot, as well as a referendum on an Education SPLOST for new school construction.

Resaca will vote on alcohol sales in the city.

Sample ballots will be printed in Saturday’s Calhoun Times, as well.
