Posted Aug. 27: Adairsville woman is charged in fatal wreck
An Adairsville woman has been charged with failure to yield and may face other charges after a fatal wreck Friday morning that killed a 72-year-old man at the intersection of the Rome Bypass and Calhoun Avenue, police said.
Huey Long, was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. as a result of his injuries from the wreck, said Floyd County Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor.
Long was a former Murray County resident who had been living at Winthrop Assisted Living for the past two weeks, said Cpl. M.C. Chewning of the Floyd County Police Department.
According to Chewning, Long was traveling west on the Rome Bypass in a Toyota Yaris when his car collided with a Ford Thunderbird, driven by June Wood, 76, who was traveling east. Wood was attempting to make a left turn onto Calhoun Avenue, Chewning said.
Wood was taken to Floyd Medical Center where she was in the intensive care unit Friday.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, Chewning said.
Traffic was backed up in the area for more than an hour while officers investigated the wreck.
