Hall said “even though we had a record number of members last year, we are looking forward to an increased number of members this fall”.
Treglown said “we need all recent retirees to join, especially since the GA Retired Educators Asso. is refunding to the local unit $10 for each new member of GREA who signs up for ADD – Automatic Dues Deduction.”
ADD is $2 a month deducted from the TRS check. The executive committee of the CGREA (local unit) recently voted that these refunds from GREA would be applied to the scholarship fund that the organization sponsors.
Local meetings are a lot of fun and informative also. It is a good way for teachers to stay connected to their former occupation and the people that they worked with over the years. Individuals don’t have to have been a teacher to join. The association accepts principals, too.
Beverly Primmer, retired Calhoun City system secretary, said, “the local unit helps me keep up with issues on education and be informed on legislation affecting retired educators. If the officers of CGREA don’t have the answer to our questions, they know where to find the answers.”
The CGREA meets seven times a year on the second Wednesday of Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Feb, March and May at 10:30 a.m. Most of these meetings are held at the Calhoun Gordon County Library. The first meeting on Sept. 8 will be a covered dish luncheon meeting at Sandra Hall’s family pavilion on the river.
