Gordon Hospital has awarded Karen Shaw, marketing coordinator, the Extra Mile Award which recognizes employees who have gone above and beyond on a regular basis. This award was created by the members of the hospital’s Employee Engagement Committee to recognize employees who go above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. This award is given monthly to a deserving employee selected by the hospital’s directors.

“Gordon Hospital is filled with employees who consistently go the extra mile forour hospital, our patients and each other,” Shaw said. “To be named among them is an incredible honor for me.”

According to Chief Nursing Officer Amy Jordon, who is also the executive director of the hospital’s Spirit of Women program, Shaw has worked hard to implement the new program at Gordon Hospital and serves as the program coordinator.

“Karen does an amazing job with any project she undertakes,” Jordon said. “She always has a smile on her face and her bubbly personality is infectious. Karen is an extremely valuable asset to our team, and we are proud to present her with this well-deserved recognition.”

Shaw has been employed by Gordon Hospital for almost two years following a 17-year career as a writer in the newspaper industry. She and her husband, Tim, reside in Calhoun and will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this September. They have a 14-year-old daughter, Katie, a freshman at Sonoraville High School. In her spare time, Shaw enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, Facebooking, and going to the beach.
