Calhoun City Schools and Gordon County Schools have met performance goals required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act, according to

information provided by the Georgia Department of Education Monday.

All four city schools met adequate yearly progress (AYP) requirements the system made AYP.

All 10 Gordon County schools made AYP, but the system as a whole failed to meet the benchmark.

“All our schools made AYP, and that is a great accomplishment," said said Bill McCown, Gordon County Schools superintendent. "This is the first time all of the schools made it since 2003. We think that’s great.”

“We are very excited, and our schools did a great job," he said. "We are proud of all our teachers, administrors and students.”

McCown mentioned CRCT and graduation re-tests will be factored into the overall AYP equation, and the school system could make AYP as a whole.

The second release of systems that made AYP will be released in Septemember, officials stated.
