Two Calhoun City Council members were elected to the board of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) during the organization’s annual meeting last month in Savannah.

David Hammond was elected president of GMA’s District 1, which includes the cities in Gordon, Dade, Catoosa, Whitfield, Fannin, Murray, Gilmer, Walker, Pickens, Floyd, Bartow, Polk, Haralson and Paulding counties.

George Crowley was elected to serve an at-large position on the GMA board.

“We are pleased to have Councilmembers Crowley and Hammond taking on these leadership positions,” said Jim Higdon, GMA executive director. “They are well respected by their colleagues, and I’m sure they will provide leadership to the cities in the state.”

Atlanta-based GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical assistance services to 500 member cities across Georgia.
