Tennis tournament raises more than $10,000 for hospital

More than $10,000 was raised recently as a result of the 2010 Gordon Hospital Foundation Tennis Tournament.

The fourth annual event was held in partnership with the Sequoyah Tennis Association and the City of Calhoun at the City of Calhoun Tennis Courts.

“We are very pleased to announce that this year we had 108 players,” said Judy Jackson, director of development for Gordon Hospital. “On behalf of the Gordon Hospital Foundation, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Jeff and Bettina Briggs for all the hours they put into making the tournament a success.”

The round robin doubles event was open to all men, women and juniors with players being divided into one of three levels: advanced, intermediate or beginner. All proceeds raised from the event will be earmarked for the future construction of a cancer center at Gordon Hospital.

The title sponsors were Mohawk Industries and Mohawk Home. The social sponsor was the Sequoyah Tennis Association. Court sponsors were Brian Brannon, clerk of Superior Court; Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home; B&M Machinery; Calhoun OB/GYN Associates; Chick-fil-A; Drs. Little, PC; Nance Carpet and Rug; North Georgia Cancer Care – Dr. Eric Turner; North Georgia Eye Care – Dr. Daniel Ahn; Martin and Beth Vaughn; Kayanne Walraven; and Northside Bank.

This year’s winners were:

Women — Megen Cochran and Katarina Guarino; Katie Snow and Wynell Daniel; and Terina Fowler and Kathleen Wolfe.

Men — Carl Kessler and McClain Kessler; Joe Stewart and Chris Tarpley; Hal Lamb and Ben Lamb; Greg Massey and DJ Sattar.

Juniors – Callie Davis and Lexuss King; McCartney Kessler and Marlee Nickelson.
