The Calhoun based swim team, led by George News, is 1-3 on the young season in four dual meets. Despite the record, News is excited about the season so far.
“Overall the season has been great and each meet we are getting better and faster,” he said. “Hopefully at each meet the kids will continue to drop their times.”
The Barracudas kicked off the 2010 swim season against Mosby Park in Cleveland Tennessee. Calhoun would lose their opening meet 283-258 in a lightning shortened match.
Micah Klingbell led the ‘Cudas with 17 points. Competing in the 8-and-under bracket, he placed first individually in the 25-meter freestyle, 25-meter breaststroke and the 25-meter backstroke. He was also a member of the first place 100-meter medley relay team.
Also placing with double digit point totals were Kathryn Russell (13 points, 10-11 age group, 1 first place finish), Bailey Mitchum (12, 10-11, 2), Alison Driggers (12, 10-11, 2), Bryant Mathis (12, 13-14, 2), Wimberly Burch (11, 11-12, 2), Andrew McEntyre (10, 13-14, 1), and Lindsey Driggers (10, 15-18, 1).
Also picking up one first place finish were Allie Workman, Kailey Klingbell, Austin Hancock, Zachary Beeler, Diana Bishop, and Mirah McEntyre.
In the second meet of the season on June 14 the Calhoun swim team hit the road once again to face the Ooltewah Swim Club. The OSC Tidalwaves defeated the Blue Barracudas 405-345.
M. Klingbell again led the points list for Calhoun, grabbing five first place finishes for 19 points. He finished first in the 25-meter freestyle, 25-meter breaststroke, and 25-meter backstroke. He also placed first as part of the 100-meter medley relay team and 100-meter freestyle relay team.
Also finishing with double-digit point totals were Mathis (18, 13-14, 3), A. McEntyre (16, 13-14, 2), George Russell (15, 8-and-under, 1), Hancock (15, 15-18, 1), Beeler (14, 15-18, 1), Driggers (14, 15-18, 1), Workman (14, 8-and-under, 2), Burch (12, 11-12), Vivianne Funes (11, 8-and-under), Gallman (11, 11-12), Michael Llop (11, 15-18, 1), M. McEntyre (11, 15-18, 1), and Bailey Reeves (10, 15-18).
Lillie Lewis earned a first place finish and earned seven points.
The Calhoun Swim Club picked up their first win of the season when it hosted the Cumberland Youth Foundation from Chattanooga at the Calhoun Recreation Center. The Blue Barracudas won 409-333.
M. Klingbell, Workman and Mitchum all tied for top-points honors with 19 each.

Work placed first individually in the 20-meter freestyle, 25-meter backstroke and 25-meter butterfly. She was also a member of the 100-meter medley relay team and 100-meter freestyle relay team.
Mitchum placed first individually in the 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke, and 50-meter butterfly. He was also a member of the 100-meter medley relay team and 100-meter freestyle relay team.
Also finishing in double-digits were Mathis (18, 13-14, 3), Hancock (17, 15-18, 2), Gallman (16, 11-12, 2), Cecelia Swink (15, 9-10, 2), A. McEntyre (15, 13-14, 2), Beeler (15, 15-18, 1), G. Russell (15, 8-and-under, 1), Driggers (13, 15-18, 1), Funes (12, 8-and-under), Grant Lewis (12, 9-10, 1), Geanna Funes (11, 13-14, 1), Joshua Reddoch (11, 11-12, 1), M. McEntyre (10, 15-18, 1), Burch (10, 11-12, 1), Reeves (10, 9-10), Savannah Swink (10, 13-14) and Brock Stewart (10-11-12, 1).
K. Klingbell had one first place finish on the way to six points.
On June 24 the Blue Barracudas hosted their second home meet but fell to visiting CASL Fairyland 000-346.
Burch led the Calhoun Swim Club with 19 points.
She placed first individually in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter IM, and 50-meter backstroke. She also placed first as part of the 200-meter medley relay team and 200-meter freestyle relay team.
Also placing with double-digit point totals were M. Klingbell (17, 8-and-under, 3), C. Swink (17, 9-10, 3), Tyler Ann Herron (17, 15-18, 2), Hancock (17, 15-18, 2), Mitchum (17, 8-10, 3), Mathis (15, 13-14, 1), Driggers (14, 15-18, 1), Gallman (14, 11-12, 2), Workman (14, 8-and-under, 2), Beeler (14, 15-18, 1), S. Swink (12, 13-14), Tommy Swink (11, 15-18), Grace Converse (11, 11-12), G. Russell (11, 8-and-under, 1), M. McEntyre (10, 15-18), and Meredith Holden (10, 13-14).
The Blue Barracudas have 76 athletes for the 2010 summer season.
