Both head coaches, Jerry Pruett for the girls and new coach Derrick Broom for the boys, worked with the campers, teaching the basic fundamentals of the game.
“We spent time working on ball handling, pivoting, and passing earlier in camp and then let the kids play more later on,” said Pruett. “I hope the kids got a lot of drills to take home to work on their skills.”
“Now-a-days kids are getting away from the fundamentals,” added Broom. “Hopefully this camp helped the kids relearn the fundamentals and build a team concept.”
Helping Pruett with the camp were Lady Jacket players Katelyn Poole, Payton Greeson, Callie Pruett (Jerry’s daughter), Carly Curtis, Alex Rierson, and Coach Kayla Ralston.
“I hope [my players] gave back what they have gotten,” said Pruett. “I hoped they stressed to them how to get their fundamentals and to do it right the first time.”
Helping Broom on the boys side were Coach Vince Layson and players Grayson Arnold, Brett Moss and Ahad Hanif.
“I hope the players helped to teach these young kids what it takes to play basketball at the high school level,” said Broom. “I also hope they showed them the hard work that they put in and how it has paid off.”
