The camp, which focused on teaching the basic fundamentals of the game, drew 19 campers in the morning session and 34 in the afternoon session.
“We want to teach the basic fundamentals but also have fun doing it,” CHS coach Diane Smith said.
The early camp drew the younger kids while the afternoon camp brought in the older, more skilled players.
Helping Smith out with the camp this year were CMS coach Tony Lindsey and CMS assistant coach Jessica Guess.
Also making an appearance and helping out was former CHS player Maddie Monroe, who came in fresh off of her Pitcher of the Year performance at Reinhardt College.
“These girls know who Maddie Monroe is,” said Smith. “She is big time and I am sure some of the kids want to be like her.”
Smith also had several players helping out with the camp including senior Tori Jones, juniors Shyanne Dobson and Danielle Phillips, sophomores Shanta McDaniel and freshmen Alyssa Shawgo, Katelin West, Payton Greeson, Amber Parker and Madison Walker.
“My players started out in camps just like this and these younger kids look up to them,” said Smith. “These high school girls are their heroes and they like to listen to them at these camps.”
