Calhoun High School students attended the GCSA (Georgia Career Student Association) State Conference in Jekyll Island, Ga., April 7-10. At the conference, Calhoun students had the opportunity to win awards. Ruben Hernandez won fifth place for word processing, Marilyn Echeverria won second place for applied communications and Amy Picon won fifth place for communication skills. Eddie Jaramillo, Yesenia Rosas, Merisela Garduno, Diana Guzman and Angie Brito as a group won third place in community/civic awareness. Mario Avalos, Carlos Hernandez and Tony Napoles won third place in school project. Zach Ivey won second place for math applications, Derikas Hines one first place for leadership development and also the recognition of outstanding state officer. Tomas Lara Sosa, Elsy Gomez and Venessa Rosas won fourth place for video production. Shaq Evans and Dee Davis won fifth place in creative problem solving. Kathy Mijangos, Alex Hernandez, Erwin Romero, Jennifer Peace, Kylea Riley and Paige Wright won second place in opening and closing ceremony.
