Moments before they tossed their caps into the air, grads kicked off their shoes and formed lines on the water-soaked Astroturf field and danced to the song “I’ve got a Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas.
Graduate Laura Garner led the performance as a goodbye memory for retiring Principal Wanda Westmoreland.
Westmoreland was moved to tears, but climbed down on the field and danced with the graduates (in her walking boot cast) and relished the moment.
During the graduation, Westmoreland told the audience that the class of 2010 was a unique, diverse group and a class that only a mother could love.
Westmoreland mentioned to the audience that their academic, athletic and literary achievements have set them a part from any class; and, the class was special to her because she had been with them all four year of their high school career.
There were six highest honor graduates. They were Clifford Lance, Madison Bunch, Gail Smith, Karishma Patel, Ava Langford and Evelyn Hernandez.
The theme was dreams and each top grad delivered speeches on dreaming and the impact it has had on them throughout their high school years.
Heavy rain earlier in the night didn’t move graduation indoors, but didn’t delay the commencement ceremony by a few minutes at Phil Reeve stadium.
