Tom Graves, a Ranger Republican running for Congress, said a Cartersville bank’s lawsuit against him is without merit.

Bartow County Bank filed suit in Gordon Superior Court alleging that Graves, who is in a June 8 runoff against Lee Hawkins to fill the Congressional seat vacated by former Rep. Nathan Deal, defaulted on a $2.25 million loan, according to court records reviewed by the Calhoun Times.

In court filings, Bartow County Bank alleges that Graves, State Sen. William M. “Chip” Rogers, of Woodstock and their company Tich Hospitality LLC, were insolvent and did not have the assets to repay the loan.

The bank filed the initial complaint on. Jan. 7 in Gordon Superior Court. Tich Hospitality planned to purchase a Calhoun motel with the money.

In a countersuit, filed in March, Graves and Rogers say the bank’s claim should be dismissed, alleging the bank acted in bad faith and breached the terms of the loan agreement.

Graves said that the release of details of the suit earlier this week was “gutter politics.”

Hawkins, also a former state representative, has said his campaign had nothing to do with spreading word of the lawsuit, according to the Gainesville Times.

“Anyone can make a claim against you,” Graves told the Times. “We have a very strong counterclaim against them, one which we expect to be successful in. We believe in the judicial system in America, and believe that when all the facts are out there, the right outcome will occur.”

Graves and Rogers are scheduled to make depositions in the case on June 30 at the offices of an Atlanta law firm.

Fantasy: Tulips, "...support our hometown heros..."

"...People are hateful and make up lies against leaders whether in politics or not."

Facts: a) Bartow County Bank files court suit, b)Graves insolvent and wants to manage our district.

Save your breath for your inflatable date, Mr. Graves.

I have no intention of voting for Graves or any other politician who subscribes to and promotes the "us-vs-them" tactics we see in his commercials. In order to effectively serve this country and their constituents our elected officials have to work together, not continue to act as if the ideas and principles of their respective party are the only valid ones out there and that all others must be denounced at all costs.

This is a civil matter not criminal therefore the innocent until proven guilty rule does not apply. If you want this slimeball to represent you that's fine it shows how intelligent YOU are. I just hope the people in his district see what he has done and do the right thing. He is certainly NOT a hero, that's the most asinine comment I've seen in years. These are not rumours or false, they are true so get over yourself and open your dang eyes.

Tom Graves has my vote. We need to support our hometown heros and get someone who will help North Georgia and especially Gordon County. Remember he's innocent until proven quilty. I believe him when he says its all gutter politics. People are hateful and make up lies against leaders whether in politics or not. Stop spewing lies and false accusations against this family man who works hard to do the right thing and serve the people.

Mike Freeman...Democrat..."Recent events within my family demand that I leave the business of politics aside and focus on my duties as a husband, father, and grandfather."

Another typical politician caught with his pants down, and now he has REENTERED the race.

When will many American's wake up to the fact that BOTH parties stink to high heaven, and BOTH parties have crooks rampant everywhere?

Answer: Never.

The American people deserve better, but sadly, we also deserve what we get.

Things will never get better until people demand straight answers from their political leaders, instead of the "thrills running down my leg" mentality of those who call themselves reporters.

Gutter Politics? Sounds as if Mr. Graves and his partner are rather familiar with gutters: they borrowed $2.25 million to buy one.

These two law and order, anti-illegal-immigration conservatives paid that amount of money for and operated a haven for illegal immigrants and registered sex-offenders! Priceless! Read the latest AJC article: the manager of the place was wearing an ankle-monitor during his interview with the reporter because he had a restraining order against him! Absolutely Astounding.

Let me make sure I understand this: Graves and his partner have a business; that business borrows $2.25 million from Bartow County Bank; Graves personally guarantees the loan. Now, Graves cannot or will not repay the loan, and instead of doing everything possible to pay his debt, he defaults, and sues the bank.

Oh yea, and runs for Congress! So a deadbeat who can't manage his own finances has the gall to ask us to elect him to Congress. That's delicious. By the way: this lawyer hating tort reformer sure found him a high priced Atlanta lawyer real quick! Wander how he's paying his legal bills... ?
