Master Trooper Steve Yancey received the second annual Kathy Cox Guardian Angel Award.

He was presented with the award by Gordon County EMS Director Courtney Taylor on May 20 at the public safety gathering hosted by Gordon EMS. The award was created in memory of Kathy Cox, a Gordon County codes enforcement officer, who died last year in the line of duty.

The award is given to a public safety member who displays a strong commitment to public safety, teamwork among agencies, training and education, willingness to help those in need and an ability to think outside the box.

Master Trooper Yancey has served 29 years with the Department of Public Safety and is highly regarded among his peers, supervisors and members of the community.
