A Gordon County man has been arrested and placed in the county jail after barricading himself inside of his home.

According to Sheriff Mitch Ralston:

At approximately 8:45 p.m. Tuesday evening, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a private residence at 252 Wisteria Way in Sonoraville.

Officers were told that Ricky Lewis Prince, 47, was threatening to kill himself with a shotgun.

Prince confronted the responding officers with a shotgun outside his home. Prince then ran into his home and barricaded himself inside, according to the investigator’s report.

Prince ignored requests to disarm or surrender.

A hostage negotiator was summoned to the scene from the sheriff’s office and negotiated with the man via cellular phone for several hours.

Prince held the deputies at bay for three hours. According to the report, Prince was taunting the officers to shoot him.

Prince was apprehended when he wandered outside momentarily unarmed and was rushed by several tactical deputies, who were hiding nearby.

Prince was then taken into custody without resistance. He received first aid from Gordon EMS personnel at the scene for a head laceration before being taken into custody.

He was transported to Gordon Hospital and examined before being incarcerated in the county jail.

Prince was charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

Detectives executed a search warrant of the home and collected the shotgun and other physical evidence.

There was blood inside the house believed to be from one of Prince’s self sustained injuries, deputies reported.

State Troopers from Calhoun Post 43 responded to the scene as well. Ralston said he wished to thank the officers for their assistance.

“Deputy sheriffs displayed extraordinary patience, restraint, negotiating, and tactical skills in resolving this volatile situation in a successful manner,” Ralston said.

This is what happens when a wife drives her husband insane by cheating on him, and enabling his addictions. Poor guy.

A group of men and women doing their best to save a man's life. I am so glad to have a Sheriff and deputies of their caliber.

Now if by chance you have a warrant for your arrest, and you are not holding a gun, thinking about taking your life, you might be taken down by these fine law men and women, all in the name of keeping our county safe. Thank you once again!

Remember, pray for these officers

I strongly believe that we simply have the best group of officers in the state. Our Deputies, along with Sheriff Ralston, and Chief Deputy Robert Paris are perhaps the most knowledgeable, well-equipped, and finest men around. Gordon County is blessed to have such great public servants.
