Comcast Cable rolls out a new brand for its cable in the North Georgia region today. XFINITY will be the new name, though Comcast will remain the corporate name for the media giant. The change brings to fruition years of work to put all of Comcast’s products on an all-digital platform.

“The XFINITY platform is built to constantly evolve with new products that will ultimately transform how our customers experience their entertainment, communications and information,” said McKnight Brown, vice president of marketing for Comcast in the Atlanta region. “The new product brand represents the future of Comcast and it’s a promise to customers that we’ll keep innovating.”

The new digital network is capable of offering 50 Mbps downloads that will be even faster in the future, more than 100 High Definition (HD) channels, as many as 20,000 Video on Demand choices, FANCAST XFINITY TV with 19,000-plus movies along with a variety of cross-platform features, including an interactive home telephone with Universal Caller ID.

Taylor Nipper, director of marketing for the Atlanta region, said the XFINITY name signifies the unlimited potential of the cable products. “We’ve been enhancing our products over time” and he expects that by the end of May, 50 more HD channels may be available in Rome.

Nipper also said ESPN 3D would be the first three-dimensional network added to the lineup locally, though he could not project a specific date for that product to be introduced.

XFINITY will also offer customers remote digital video recorder (DVR) and multi-room DVR capabilities later in the year.

The nationwide transition to the XFINITY brand is under way with the transformation already in place in Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco.
