On Friday afternoon law enforcement officials from both the Calhoun Police Department and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department will gather on the Gordon County Court House steps to remember those officers who have died in the line of service.

This is the second time the county has acknowledged the National Police week, with the Gordon County Board of Commissioners declaring May 9 – 15, 2010 “Peace Officer Memorial Week.”

The board recognized four officers from the county who died during service over the past 100 years.

Sheriff Noah H. McGinnis died on Dec. 1 1892; Policeman S.C. Goss, died in service on April 24, 1924; State Trooper Billy Tanner died in service on April 11, 1970 and Ordinance Officer and Reserve Deputy Kathy A. Cox died on Aug. 21, 2008.

There will be a service to honor these officers on May 14 at noon on the courthouse steps.
