Alan Marvel, 19, of Resaca, has been accepted into the prestigious National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).

Marvel will be honored during Induction Convocation in the fall at Georgia Institute of Technology where he attends school as a computer science major.

NSCS executive director Stephen Loflin says that the society isn’t your average college honors organization.

“NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement. Membership gives students access to a number of amazing benefits, including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel and service projects both on campus and in the community,” Loflin said.

Membership is by invitation only for first and second year college students. Students must have a 3.4 or above grade point average, as well as rank in the top 20 percent of their class standing.

There are more than 675,000 lifetime members and 250 chapters across America, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Marvel is a 2009 graduate of Gordon Central High School and is a freshman at Georgia Tech in Atl.

The Georgia Tech freshman is the son of Shirley and Douglas Marvel of Resaca. He is the brother of Jonathan Marvel, Melanie West and Daniel Marvel.
