It was about six years ago that I began to write columns for The Calhoun Times. I was living in Cairo, Egypt at the time. When I came home later that year I continued to write the columns. Some of my columns have drawn a lot of negative comments but I was thinking about which column got the most favorable comments. When I submitted the column on Darwin’s Theory in June of 2006, the editor confirmed receipt of my column and sent me a note saying this was my best column.

About three years ago I was talking with a young lady and I asked her if she read my column. She said that she had been reading them for over a year. She said she started reading them when the pastor of her church read one of my columns as a part of his Sunday Morning sermon. I asked her which one it was and she said it was the one about evolution. I think it would be a good time to reprint this column.

Our country has moved a long way from its roots established by people who came to America to find religious freedom. It does not seem possible that it could have happened, but now Darwin’s THEORY of Evolution is being taught as the truth and the biblical story of true creation is not allowed in our school system. Following is a summary of some of the teachings of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.

BY CHANCE, Millions of years ago a great explosion took place and many suns and planets were formed.

BY CHANCE, A magnetic force which we call gravity came into being and caused these suns and planets to collect into universes.

BY CHANCE, One of these planets in one of these universes was the right distance from one of the suns to develop a moderate temperature.

BY CHANCE, This planet — which we call Earth — had both oxygen and hydrogen present and a substance was formed which we call water.

BY CHANCE, Chemical elements came together with a mysterious ingredient which we call LIFE and plants and trees began to grow and cover the soil that the water did not cover.

BY CHANCE, This mysterious LIFE ingredient combined with the right chemical elements to form a one-celled life-being which we call an amoeba.

BY CHANCE, These amoeba combined with each other until they formed fish- complete with a bone structure, a digestive system, a sight system, a brain and a reproductive system.

BY CHANCE, These fish eventually developed legs, hearing and lungs with which to breathe air and became known as frogs.

BY CHANCE, These frogs developed into birds with wings and they developed into small warm-blooded mammals.

BY CHANCE, These small mammals developed into monkeys and larger apes - with intelligence added to their characteristics.

BY CHANCE, These apes developed into human beings - who are supposed to believe all of the things listed above.

The proof of any scientific fact lies in the ability to reproduce the reaction or action that is being reported. Science with all of its intelligence and research has only been able to repeat one of the “BY CHANCE” developments listed above.

They have been able to combine hydrogen and oxygen and make water.

It is hard to see how anyone could think that the human body is an accidental creation. Consider the brain connected to all of the muscles in the body by miles of nerves. Consider the food supply system that digests food and removes essential ingredients and sends them through the body by miles of blood vessels to feed each part that particular nourishment that it needs. Consider the eyes and their connection to the brain that allows clear vision of objects outside of the body. Consider the ears and the ability to hear and their connection to the brain that allows sounds to be understood as words and thoughts. Consider the arms and legs that can move us about and collect things that we need. The most complicated machine on earth is not even in the same realm of development as the human body. The body is so wondrously formed that it had to be planned by a creator.

A person who can believe that the human body happened BY CHANCE would not be surprised if someone was digging in their back yard and uncovered next years model of a Porsche automobile complete with woven fabric interior and a tank full of gasoline. The odds against finding an automobile like this is much higher than the odds that the complicated human body developed on its own.

The book of Genesis talks about God creating animals and how they reproduce “after his kind”. The science of Husbandry has been able to modify animals slightly and a horse and a donkey can cross breed and produce a mule. There has never been a mule that was able to give birth and continue its line. Science has crossbred a buffalo and a cow and produced a different animal but again it was not able to reproduce. If evolution was a fact and not a theory, there would be at least one recorded example of something evolving somewhere in history.

To find out the real truth, the best place to go is back to Genesis 1:1 where it says “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
