Georgia Northwestern Technical College will announce its new mascot within about six weeks, the college announced Tuesday.

The mascot will replace the Bruin of Coosa Valley Technical College and the Mustang of Northwestern Technical College, which merged to form GNTC.

Students voted online for two weeks to choose the new athletic mascot.

Though school officials have not revealed the finalists, they did say that they looked for names that were not already being used by colleges or high schools in the area.

“Right now, we are in the process of designing the artwork for the winning mascot and hope to unveil that in a ceremony in the very near future,” said Stuart Phillips, vice president of student services at Georgia Northwestern.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams of Georgia Northwestern will be the first programs to sport the new mascot on their uniforms. Their seasons begin this November.
