Police and fire officials responded to a collision involving a Gordon County school bus and a minivan late Monday afternoon.

According to Gordon County Fire Chief David Hawkins, the accident occurred around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon on Sugar Valley Road in Calhoun.

According to Gordon County Schools Safety Coordinator, Toni Queen a minivan hit the bus in the rear end causing damage to the van and not the bus. No injuries were reported and a second bus was brought in to take the children home.

Queen said accidents of this type are rare and children are very safe on school buses.

"A child is safer on a bus than in a vehicle," Queen said. "When someone hits a bus they might have a lot of damage, while a bus can drive away unharmed."

Queen said that bus was carrying around 15 middle and high school aged children at the time of the accident.

How hard is it to pay attention to a school bus in front of you? This was just an accident cause by bad driving
