According to Bryan Burchett, administrative assistant with the Georgia State Patrol Calhoun post 43, I 75 reopened at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Burchett said cases of beer spilled onto the highway when the trailer hauling them overturned. A crew has been brought in to clear area.

Many travelers are using Highway 53 as an alternate, which has caused congestion through Calhoun.

Originally posted April 14 11:27 a.m. Interstate 75 northbound lanes were closed just south of exit 315 in Calhoun, for a few hours Wednesday morning.

An overturned tractor trailer hauling beer caused the blockage, according to Bryan Burchett, administrative assistant with the Georgia State Patrol Calhoun post.

A van was also involved in the accident, Burchett said, but no injuries were reported.

State troopers were on the scene shortly after 11 a.m., he said.

The state patrol was notified of the accident at around 10:30 a.m., Burchett said, and a towing service was en route shortly after 11 a.m. to begin clearing the wreckage.
