Ninety-five participants selected one of three routes —14, 35, or 62 mile rides — leaving from the Historic Calhoun Depot on Saturday, March 27.
Riders from Stockbridge, Gainesville, Duluth, Roswell, Lawrenceville, Dalton, Ringgold, Marietta, Chattanooga, Bryson City, North Carolina, Seattle, Washington, Appleton, Wisconsin, and Gordon County participated in the ride.
Each participant received a T-shirt designed by Julie Anderson of Mohawk, lunch, and rest stops along each route. The riders were treated to true Gordon County hospitality with the help of the Calhoun Cycling Club, Cherokee Capital Amateur Radio Society, Gordon Emergency Management, United Way board members and representatives from the Council for a Literate Community, the Family Resource Center, Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troop 22, Girl Scout Troops 7097, 7205, 7222, and 7234, Red Cross Gordon County office, and Boys and Girls Club.
The Calhoun City Police along with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the safety for the riders. Sponsors for the event were AOSM Associates in Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Ava Roland, Bode Spence, Calhoun Gordon Convention and Visitors Bureau, Calhoun Times, Cherokee Cycles, Dr. and Mrs. Steve King, Drs. The U-Ride is an annual event held the last Saturday in March, and proceeds go to support the 19 United Way agencies working in Gordon County.
