From now until April 18, shoppers at Tractor Supply Company can support Gordon County 4-H by donating $1 or more at checkout. In exchange, customers will receive a paper clover to sign and post on the store window.
The store is located at 491 Hwy. 53 east in Calhoun at the Indian Hills shopping center.
Kristi Weaver, Gordon County 4-H program director, said the clover donations will benefit local youth campers, scholarships and programs.
“We are experiencing a shortage in scholarship donations for Cloverleaf campers. Many 4-H’ers want to go to camp for the summer, but their families can’t afford it. So, through donations we are able to give them scholarships from local donors,” Weaver explained.
Last summer, local 4-H members spent a week at the Jekyll Island camp. And many campers who couldn’t afford the cost received scholarships.
This year, Cloverleaf campers will travel to Rock Eagle summer camp in Eatonton. From swimming to puttputt golf to movies and night hikes, the ropes course, canoeing, sailing and archery, Rock Eagle summer camp offers youth a variety of outdoor activities.
“We receive 60 percent of the (proceeds from) paper clovers sold,” Weaver said.
The remaining 10 percent will support state 4-H programs, and 30 percent will go to National 4-H Council for sponsorship of the program.
Gordon County 4-H youth have participated in several outreach and community service projects throughout the season. Some projects are Rivers Alive, a Rabies Clinic, Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army, a horse clinic and the Unity Run.
