Lee Hawkins, a former State Senator and a dentist for over 30 years, qualified Monday to seek Georgia's 9th District congressional seat in the May 11 special election.

"We'll take our conservative values to Washington to push for smaller government and the conservative solutions America needs," Hawkins said after filing papers with the Secretary of State's Office in Atlanta. "We'll fight for the Fair Tax and a Balanced Budget Amendment, and to repeal Obamacare and replace it with the real health care reform Americans want-reform that reduces costs, retains choices for individuals, and preserves quality care.

"I'm the only candidate running who has successfully run a business for over 30 years. It's important that we elect people to Congress who know how to run businesses and create jobs. My experience as a family dentist running a business will be an enormous asset to me as a Congressman.

"We'll use conservative policies proven to create jobs-real tax credits for employers, cutting red tape, and stimulating the economy with solutions such as the Fair Tax."

CSA, I'm not in favor of implementing the fair tax, although I believe it is a vast improvement to what we currently have. The 18-20 cent increase that you speak of is not exactly accurate. It would be an inclusive tax and there would be a "prebate" that would give every household money each month.

This would allow the income tax to disappear and be replaced by the sales tax. Therefore, something that you would buy for a dollar would still cost a dollar, only difference is that you don't have an income tax or payroll tax.

I don't know all the particulars, but the idea is to replace the income tax with sales tax.

Although I appreciate the concept, and perhaps would prefer it, the pragmatist in me believes that it would be quickly changed by the politicians and turned into something more like you descirbe.

Additionally, I would expect them to keep the income tax too. Politicians (generally speaking) aren't interested in what is fair, they are interested in how they can get power and money for themselves and government. Then dole out (taxpayers) money to whom they wish to curry favor.

In other words, he'll add an additional 18-20 cents per dollar on everything you buy, which benefits only the very wealthy, he'll vote to give insurance companies back the ultimate power over your life and whether you can see a doctor or not depending on how much money you have; if you don't have insurance and you don't have money, tough luck you better hope you don't get sick and if you do that you die quickly. The typical GOP heartless cruel policies they have lived and died for for 150 years
