ATLANTA — Gov. Sonny Perdue has set April 27 for a special election to fill a pair of newly vacant legislative seats.

State Sen. Lee Hawkins and Rep. Tom Graves announced Tuesday they were resigning to run for Congress. The Republicans are both seeking the seat that had been held by U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal.

Deal, also a Republican, quit to concentrate on his bid for governor. He represents the 9th congressional district in North Georgia.

The election to replace Deal will also be held April 27.

Hawkins is from Gainesville. Graves hails from Ranger. They are among the 13 people who have expressed interest in running for Deal's seat.
