State Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ranger, plans to resign today to run for Georgia’s 9th Congressional District seat.

Congressman Nathan Deal has resigned to run for governor.

A special election to fill Deal's seat will be held April 27.

"I will resign my House seat effective close of business Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in order to fill the unexpired term in the 9th District," Graves said. "This will enable the governor to schedule both the election to fill my House seat and the 9th District congressional seat on the same day and save taxpayer money.

“While qualifying for the congressional seat alone would have vacated my house seat, the timing would have been outside the window of opportunity to allow both elections to occur on the same date. Therefore, as a steward of the taxpayer, the prudent decision is to step down early and allow the Governor to set the special elections on the same day.

“Julie and I have been humbled and honored to have been given the opportunity to serve Gordon, Pickens and Bartow counties in the legislature. And, for that, we are forever grateful.

“I am pleased with the Governor’s selection of the earliest possible election date. My family and I look forward to the campaign and the opportunity to serve the people of Georgia’s 9th Congressional District.”

Qualifying for the congressional seat will take place March 29-31. Per state law, Graves would have automatically vacated his House seat upon qualifying. Resigning early allows the special elections for the Graves’ House seat and the 9th District Congressional seat to take place on the same day.

Actually those 20% interest rates were caused by the ineptness of Nixon/Ford and if you knew anything about history, not the BS they teach now but real history, you would know that.

This used to be sort of fun but now I realize that people who want to be ignorant will be, then its stupidty and the GOP loves stupid people, and Georgia, it must because look at all teh republicans elected from here. You can lead people to the truth but if they're so stupid they don't want to know the truth then they aren't worth leading. Good luck to all of you, you get what you deserve, the problem is your children will have to clean up your mess if you continue voting people like Deal and Perdue and Palin into office. I wish you every happpiness with your stupidity, I know you'll be very happy together.

HeyHeyHey, Thanks for picking up on that, I wasn't sure if anyone would. It was supposed to be a veiled attempt to say that President Carter killed the economy. Sort of like people who wish to demonize our President by emphasizing his middle name.

CSA, Keep away from the Kool-Aid. Are you getting setimental for the good ole days of James Earl Ray Carter? Don't you miss the 20% interest rates on home mortgages.

Oh, and lets not forget the truthfulness of President Clinton.

Would you like a long list of lies and broken promises from the Obama administration.

If you think that Republicans are corrupt and Democrats are not, then you've been suckered.

No Bush, Reagan, Nixon, Hoover, etc... the most corrupt adminstrations in history starting with Lincoln and Grant. The great depression was a byproduct of Hoovers policies, inflation and gas shortages of the 70's Nixon's, under Reagan people were sleeping in their cars, under bridges, anywhere they could because there were no jobs, Reagan fudged the numbers to make it look like a recovery was underway when it in fact was not. Under Clinton we finally had true prosperity, after we realized that Reagan had lied for 8 years, and the GOP has been taking credit ever since despite the country being in the toliet again 9 months after W took office using the standard GOP policies.

Common Sense are ya talking about Lyndon Johnson and Vietnam??

The recession and depression thing can be countered with the 2 out of 3 of the biggest economic expansions were under GOP Presidents and the other was when Mr. Clinton was reigned in by a Gop Congress

Im a product of Baylor in Chattanooga. I really dont understand the County school System fixation? Did they turn you down for a band directing job??

JB Stoner was never elected to any office. Who was more vile? How about a president who sent young men and women off to die based on lie after lie, presidents that have put this country in recessions and depressions for over 100 years, a president who turned his head while millions slept in their cars and under bridges in the 80's because there were any jobs? How long a list do you want? You obviously need a history lesson, another fine product of Gordon County schools no doubt

Common Sense man...What a warped sense of direction...The Democrats violated Rights of all Georgians. So you blame it on someone else?

I will give you a break..I will not count the 1870-2002 history of Georgia. We all know that every bad idea or law that happened in the Ga state government was the fault of a democrat.

They were in absoulte charge. So I will cut you a break.

But Now, Starting at the top. If I were running against any democrat. I would marry them to the most unqualified individual to ever hold the highest office in American History.

From Governor down to School Board...

Maybe, but there are a lot more on one side than the other. One party is historically and by tradition corrupt to the core. I won't list their sins again I've been doing it for months and no one pays attention.

CSA, I think kickbuttdude's point is that before Democrats start pointing out the splinter in the eye of the Republicans, that they should take out the plank in their own. Certainly there can be plenty of unsavory sorts found on either side of the aisle; from state and local to federal. It seems to go with the territory nowadays.

I can see someone needs a history lesson. In 1966 the republicans in Georgia voted in the Democratic primary, for Maddox, in the mean time Bo Callaway ran unopposed in the GOP primary, the Democratic choice was a man named Ellis Arnall who ran as a third party candidate when Maddox won the Democratic primary. Bo Callaway won with the most votes in the General election because no true Democrat would vote for Maddox. No-one got 51% of the vote so the race had to be decided by the Georgia State Legislature, and the Democratic House gave the governorship to Maddox because there was no way in hades a republican was going to be elected to a statewide office in Georgia at that time. Until the second northern invasion in the 70's no self respecting southerner would ever ever vote for the party of Lincoln. We have since went straight in the toliet as far as that rule goes. Don't blame the real Democrats for what the GOP did in the 60's.

Perdue's budget doesn't include homestead exemption funding

Travis Fain - Macon News

Gov. Sonny Perdue's budget proposals don't include state funding for homestead exemption grants, meaning local governments are going to have to raise taxes, cut millions in spending.

Either that, or state legislators are going to have to find hundreds of millions of dollars to fill the hole Perdue's budget leaves -- a difficult prospect since Perdue has already cut more than $2 billion from the state budget to deal with falling revenues.

Theres one source..By the Way Sugar Valley, I know who are.

Sugarvalley,

When and where did Tom Graves make such a statement. If you want to look at reprehensible behaviour, look at the White House. President Obama promised C-Span coverage, didn't happen. He promised 5 days for the public to review legislation, didn't happen. Do you need sources?

Fact:

1) Republican Tom Graves crows unemployed people are leaches.

That's After the Bush administration strutted out of office, leaving the country in roughly the same condition a toddler leaves a diaper.

New Democrats pity the lack of understanding by this self-important little man Tom Graves.
