The Sonoraville JV Boys soccer team recorded their first win of the season by defeating Mt. Zion of Carroll County 8-4. The Eagles of Mt. Zion got off to a quick start and took an early 3-0 lead, but the resilient Phoenix rose up scoring three unanswered goals tying the game going into halftime.

The Phoenix exploded in the second half scoring four goals in 15 minutes. The teams would then add one more goal apiece.

Sonoraville was led by center midfielder Matt Edgar who had two goals and two assists and strikers Caleb Biddy and Trey Jones who each had a hat trick. Adding assists in the game was Bricen Romine, Maloy Owen, Brad Ray, and Javier Hernandez.

I was really excited with the outcome of the game. We got off to a slow start and got down on ourselves at the beginning, but the guys didn’t rest on their laurels. Instead the offense started to apply the things we worked on in practice and once that first goal came the air around the field became infectious leading everyone to step up their game.

The varsity and JV boys will travel to Gilmer County on Tuesday with the varsity game starting at 5:00.
