U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey honored CHS students for their competitive accomplishments today at the high school.

He specifically recognized the Yellow Jacket football team, competition cheerleaders, wrestler Hunter Knight and One Act cast for their 2009-2010 accomplishments.

“I am honored to represent Calhoun High School and want to congratulate the students, faculty and staff on their achievements thus far this year,” Gingrey said.

Calhoun students, teachers and school officials gathered inside of the school’s auditorium as Gingrey congratulated the Yellow Jacket athletes and drama crew for an outstanding year at a special assembly Friday morning.

“Congratulations to Calhoun High School for their accomplishments on and off the field this year,” Gingrey said.

The assembly also included a multimedia presentation of sports, drama and athletic highlights from the year.

In addition, Gingrey presented Principal Wanda Westmoreland with a special award for her dedication to students.

“Principal Westmoreland leads by example and will be greatly missed when she retires at the end of the school term,” Gingrey said.

“Her leadership is one of the reasons Calhoun was listed as one of America’s top schools by the U.S. News and World Report,” he added.

Westmoreland said she was surprised and felt honored.

“I was just very touched,” she said.
