Joe Don Griffin, the embattled ex-mayor of Resaca, and Jerry Veasy received enough signatures to constitute the first hearing to recall current Mayor Sam Allen and councilwoman Jean Makonis. The two accuse Allen and Makonis of “misappropriated Splost (sic) Funds to purchase properties and equipment and to repay debts.”

The accusation refers to the council’s decision in late 2009 to purchase a small parcel of land on the corner of Walker Street and U.S. Hwy. 41.

Council members at the time included Al Rosier and Julia Baker. Baker retired at the end of her term and Rosier was beat in the November election. Jimmy Brown was also on the council at the time and remains on the council, but was not named in the recall, but rather signed both petitions.

The committee needed 10 percent of the registered 246 voters, or 25, to have enough for an initial sufficiency for the grounds of recall hearing. Of the 41 signatures collected, 33 met the legal requirements of having been a registered voter during the original 2007 election and presently reside within the city limits of Resaca.

This hearing will determine if there is grounds for a recall and if so, the committee will have to get 33-percent of the registered active voters to sign a petition for a recall election. Qualified signatures would have to come from voters who were registered to vote in the original election, currently live in Resaca and voted in the last two major elections.

According to the Board of Elections and Voter Registration, which has the responsibility of verifying signatures, the committee would need 68 signatures if the court rules there is sufficient reason for recall.

Citizens in Fairmount recently petitioned to have Council member Linda Sledge Johnson recalled. Judge William Boyett of Whitfield County is the presiding judge and will have the sufficiency hearing on April 30. It is unknown whether he will hear the Resaca recall hearing.

knows, they may have read what you fed them. But do they have firsthand knowledge of any wrong doing.

When Mayor Allen took office,There was less than $100.00 in the operating checking account. This is a fact. Go down to the Town Hall and check for yourself. It's in the state certified audit report.Or if you dont trust them.Go to the auditors office. The former Mayor and Council hired them. Resaca is now on solid footing again.

Your Claim of indebtedness is false.

Knows...I know you have not lived in Resaca long...If it had not been for the kindness of the Gordon County Commissioners.Resaca would not have had any thing it has today.Sharing SPLOST monies allowed Griffith and the Browns to pay for any progress...It was nothing that they personally did.they were given an open bank account to do it with...an example of free spending was $30,000 on a well house in front of the Bill Taylor house.Again dont take my word for it,go down and check it out yourself.

I dont know why you and Griffith and Browns wont just move on. You lost..Accept it.

Does Resacainsight really think the citizens of Resaca are dumb enough to sign a petition that they have no idea what it says? They deserve more credit than that, I am sure they read and and understood what they were signing. Maybe they are finally wising up to Sam Allen, who is dishonest and Jeam Makonis who eggs him on. Joe Don Griffith was a good Mayor and so was Jimmy Brown. Under Allen and Makonis Resaca is so far in debt it may never recover. Why do they want to keep their actions from the public and the rest of the Council? Its something to think about.

So sad...can't we just focus on making the improvements in Resaca needed for progressive communities?

The thing is, there are too many ignorant people trying to take control of the town; for instance, Jerry Veasy. Along with the help from the Brown crew, he has convinced citizens to sign something knowing those people have no clue what they are giving their signature to. Resaca has come so far over the years, and they offer many great things to Resaca residents. Why do we need stupid people causing drama?! I wish we could kick those people out of Resaca! And why would you want someone on the council who doesn't even show up to the meetings? Ridiculous!

The City of Calhoun needs to just annex Resaca and put an end to this never ending soap opera!

We will never get a moment of peace in Resaca.

King Joe Don and The Brown Generals cannot accept the idea that most people in Resaca are not affraid or intimidated enough by them to put them back in office.

I dont think I would be stupid enough to try to have a sitting Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem recalled when I willfully violated the Town Charter by serving as Mayor and Held Town employment at the same time? A move that should caused your impeachment.

ubelievable
