A Calhoun High School student was arrested earlier today after allegedly selling steroids on the CHS campus.

According to the Calhoun Police Department:

After an extensive investigation, the Special Operations Division of the Calhoun Police Department executed a search warrant on a vehicle located in the parking lot of the Calhoun High School.

The vehicle belonged to a juvenile student who allegedly was selling anabolic steroids to other juveniles at the school. During the execution of the search warrant numerous vials and pills of suspected anabolic steroids were located and seized.

Also seized were anabolic steroid paraphernalia.

Because the suspect is a juvenile the name has not been released. However, the suspect was taken into custody and later released to his parents.

“This is an ongoing investigation. The investigation has indicated students from several Northwest Georgia Schools may be involved in the use of these drugs,” said Sgt J. Marquez, Commander of the Special Operations Division. “We are working closely with other agencies on this case.”

Police officials refused requests from the Calhoun Times to list the exact charges filed against the suspect.

Hopefully a lesson has been learned by the students who are involved in this all over Georgia. Its certainly not isolated to one student at one school. So sad.

I am very proud of the success of Calhoun schools. Its unfortunate that the actions of one student tarnish the achievements of so many. I do feel that the bigger issue here is the realization that drugs are a problem in our community not as much with our students but with the adults in our community as a whole. Its unfortunate that many students have grown up with parents who abuse drugs. How sad this is. As a community we should seek to offer programs and support to educate all on the dangers of drug abuse. Not enough funds are available for programming at our hospitals and schools. Law enforcement is doing all they can do as well. Its so unfortunate that people resort to drugs as a way for self improvement....just don't get it.

Welltraveled and Calhoun girl make excellent points.

My suggestion: rather than find faults with someone try to see what makes them successful at something and do what they do and do it better.

One thing is sure. Education makes it easier to accept the success of others without juvenile jealousy.

Seriously, you all must stop your petty small town drama and focus on coming together to solve more pressing issues. This "Mayberry" mentality is what got Calhoun where it is today; in debt, reliant on one industry and soaring taxes. Maybe you guys could channel some of that obvious anger into trying to diversify and improve the county. When you start to do things like that, the 13% unemployment rate may just begin to go down, by attracting new industry and jobs. Property values rise, county coffers improve, taxes go down....hopefully you see the pattern. Whether you live in the city or county, you are all residents and taxpayers of Gordon County, therefore have a common vested interest. Now stop it with your childish feuds and focus on positives.

Calhoun is an amazing school with a great accademic program and a great sports program. Students at our school just made a mistake. This is not the only school this has happened to, and it is unfair that Calhoun is getting so much negative attention for it. This did not affect any of the sports teams, the student selling drugs and the students buying them were not on any of the Calhoun sports teams. Calhoun has gone through great measures to make sure this never happens again. Calhoun will continue to be the best school in Gordon County, and will continue to be the best that they can be.

Go Jackets!

With a name like bettyboop you aren't worth anyones time. Why don't you do a little research an dcompare test scores and graduation rates before spouting off? The city schools kick the county's behinds every time.

Actually most of my early education was in the county school system but the years at Calhoun overrode those hellish years, sometimes I hit a wrong button and don't doublecheck when I see something so stupid I have to respond.

Ignorance is alive and well in Gordon County, and Georgia, the sad part is that the residents are so proud of it.

It is people like you that makes other people look down on the city. You people that think you are above others. You put your jeans on just like anybody else one leg at a time. You are not worth anymore of my time. Sorry city for having such a disrespectful person to represent you.

Every negative sterotype has real life models, like it or not.

If you were a native of Gordon County perhaps you would understand how substandard the teachers are at GC shools, so until you have been here 30 years please don't jump into a debate you know nothing about

Every single one of you are an embarrassing asset to the county and the city of Calhoun, Georgia. How dare of any of you talk about each other like that. All of your negative demeanors only continue the tradition of stereotyping throughout small towns like Calhoun. Of course since Calhoun is a small town there has to be those people who think they are "higher up and better" on the social & class ladders so that is understandable just like it is in the bigger picture of the real world, but I did not know adults could be so shallow.

Since Calhoun is such a small town, most people continue to STAY in Calhoun once they are older. Meaning they NEVER GET OUT OF THE BUBBLE and that they must remain in that town because they do not want to compete or realize that people out there are better than them. They remain in that town/bubble so they can continue to feel better than others within the same dwelling place.

Education is not "rated" by how other schools perform. If you were actually educated people you would understand this and would not be comparing a county school to a city school. Education is based on individual students that are trying to better themselves intellectually. So you can continue to try and make yourselves feel better about a city school being better than a county school if you must but it is so sad that you narrow-minded people have to get satisfaction from bashing school systems.

If your dogs act like you Gordon County Schools would probaly not let them attend school there.

SHS ROCKS is exactly right start acting like a responsible adult. Instead of like a kid that does'nt know any better than to be a disrespectful person.

I wouldn't let my dogs attend Gordon county schools, they're that bad. Based on my experiences and others that I have kept in touch with they haven't improved in 30 years although Bruce Potts does seem to be bringing the same level of excellance from Calhoun to Sonoraville. I don't have to worry about teaching anyone any more, but I would certainly do a better job than the hypocritical christians you're so proud of.
