Winter weather preparations kicked into high gear today as the Georgia DOT crews in Northwest Georgia prepared equipment for mobilization in case roads become covered with snow or ice.

Georgia DOT crews have just cleared Ga. 189 in Dade County, where the roadway had been covered with snow.

Georgia DOT trucks are also out treating reported icy patches on I-75 in Gordon, Whitfield and Catoosa counties. DOT will continue to provide updates.

Other crews are currently working to clear the following state highways of snow:

  • Ga. 136 in Pickens County

  • Ga. 2 in Gilmer County

  • Ga. 515, Ga. 5 and Ga. 60 in Fannin County

Motorists are urged to slow down and leave, at least, a ten car length distance between their vehi-cles and the DOT trucks clearing the roadways. They are also advised to treat any traffic signal that is not working as a four-way stop, and be aware of black ice, especially on bridges and overpasses late tonight and the early hours of tomorrow morning.
