The City of Resaca donated two of its 2009 Dodge Chargers and other relics of its former police department to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department recently. The vehicles were bought with drug seizure money and under federal law, they must go back to a law enforcement agency.

The town also donated a 1999 Ford Explorer K9 unit and a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria K9 unit to the Habersham County Sheriff’s office drug unit.

Two other 2009 Dodge Chargers will be purchased by the city of Varnell, said Resaca Mayor Samuel Allen.

“Those vehicles were not purchased with drug seizure money,” said Allen.

The city disbanded its police department in November to contract with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department to provide services for the city.

“It became more economical for Resaca to provide law enforcement protection on a yearly contractual basis,” Allen said. “Our residents will receive the same degree of protection from the Gordon County Sheriff’s office. The Sheriff’s office is located inside our town limits and a part of our contract with them is to have a unit on patrol in Resaca 12 hours each day.”

Allen said he’d like to thank the Gordon County Board of Commissioners and the Sheriff’s department for making the contract possible.

“We look forward to working with them as they provide law enforcement protection for the citizens of Resaca,” he said.

There always seems to be drama regarding Resaca. It would be nice if they fell under the Whitfield County line.

The Police force would have surely never survived by patrolling Resaca off InterState only. You cant run a Police Force without a stable source of income.

It was to big and poorly set up by the former Regime. It was destined to fail without massive ticket writing.Read the old Calhoun Times. When they set it up. They said it would have paid for itself. What a stupid statement to say to a paper.

It was most likely an illegal one.

I was suprised someone from the Ga attorney Generals office didnt make a call.

When Resaca starting getting noticed as a speed trap. They quit writng so many tickets. Therefore revenue fell way off. Then you had massive debt.

The New Mayor inhereted a Town flat broke. Getting rid of the Resaca Police was a Wise choice.

As far as buying that old House. It depends whats going to be done with it.Need more information

Well, if they had patroled Resaca instead of I-75, would have been a good idea.

I also hear the CURRANT regime is trying to buy a house they don't need.

A great move made by our Council. There was never a need for Reasca to have a Police Force.

Not with the New law enforcement Center located here.It made no sense.

But not much in Resaca Govt. has ever made sense.

The Former regime was all about burning taxpayer money.Especially SPLOST.

We have to be the only Town in Ga with a $30,000

wellhouse.
