An Adairsville man remained behind bars Wednesday after he tried to

use a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase gas and cigarettes at the

Kangaroo on Shorter Avenue.

According to Rome police reports:

Joshua David Reece, 29, of 279 Autry Road in Adairsville, allegedly tried to use the $100 around 1 a.m. Wednesday, but when the clerk noticed it was fake he took it back and left the store in a black full-sized Dodge truck.

Police attempted to stop Reece at Second Avenue just past Jewel Frost Drive, and he finally came to a stop near West 5th Street. After getting consent to search his vehicle, police found what they reported were pieces of the counterfeit $100 bill and a $10 bill.

Police then found the missing $100 bill inside a coat pocket stuffed under an infant seat.

He was taken into custody and to the Floyd County Jail, where he remained on a felony charge of forgery in the first degree.
