Advocates of a planned Civil War battlefield park in northwest Georgia tout an old real estate maxim: Location, location, location.

Several Georgia Civil War sites are within a few miles of Interstate 75, the busy highway that shadows the route of the 1864 Atlanta Campaign.

But the people of Gordon County say they have something unique.

Care to explain the private boat being washed on Saturday about 7 p.m. by fire station personnel at 327 S Wall St?

Any one thing is small and pretty harmless. But overall it creates an atmosphere that excludes the average person. It is part of the culture that we should be willing to look at and improve.

The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

Sugar Valley - The Church Bus is being used to carry a load of deserving kids to the Circus in ATL on Sat. Those kids would not ever have a chance to attend Ringling Bros on their own.

The Firemen were washing the Bus out of kindness.

Nothing wrong with that.

Well, IF the fireman don't have anything else to do , I would hope they could wash a church bus, help some elderly people, are anything else that helps someone. I appreciate it. Yes, I know, it cost a little water, well I guess that's your gripe.

And buddy, while your at it, the $1.00 comment is getting a little old. I hate it that you must have had an issue with education, but education is what keeps those jails you so worry about from becoming even more full. I am PROUD of the kids in both our systems, and for the most part, those that want it, get a GREAT education that believe it or not does enable them to change that almighty dollar you worry so about. I will defend to the death your right to speak, but PLEASE get off our kids back about a dollar!

People like yourself worry that kids will become educated, then they know how to seperate the truth and facts from the fiction and bull you seem so happy to spew!

If it increases the cost of doing business, it's going to be passed on to taxpayers.

Under this leadership, citizens have a moral obligation to check up on why it costs $118,000,000 annually to educate 10,300 students, who, typically, can't make change for a $1.00.

Control your destiny or someone else will

Calhoun Middle School/Calhoun City School System building located at 399 S River Street. Neither custodian(s) nor administrator(s) working in the dark.

Why it matters? Wasteful spending raises taxes for property owners.

Money currently borrowed to pay for.

Only Oldman fails to see the next headline: Tax hike sought by local school boards.

No outlandish, ridiculous comment about why Resaca Baptist Church bus was being washed by fire station personnel at 327 S Wall St?

Sugar, as usual, you never have ALL your facts.

Calhoun Elem is located over near the Villages developement just past firehouse gym.

Also, have you checked to see if the janitors are working when you "check up" on the administrators?

You know that's why EVERYBODY just simply can't know EVERYTHING at one time. IF they took time to explain their actions to the small minded people who think they can run things better, they would have time to do those high dollar jobs you are so envious of.

Update: 2/18/2010 -

1) Calhoun Elem School - Beginning at the red light on River Street and headed west, HVAC in classrooms 1 & 3 & 6 running at about 6:30pm.

2) Why is the Resaca Baptist Church Bus being washed by Calhoun Fire Department personnel - about 6:30 pm.

Above two things are as mindless as leadership's enthusiasm for going forward with Battle Field Park. Especially, when they've landed taxpayers in an endless mess.

Deer - apology unnecessary. Keep blogging.

Your posts are understood.

We agree with you: Local leadership is guilty of wasting millions of dollars of taxpayers' money. Administrators must learn it's time to say no, too.

Everyone everywhere is trying to be smart about how and when they spend money.

FreedoniaFirst, Did your education teach you to criticize people just because they may not be as educated as you. Everyone should be able to have their say without being belittled. There was no reason for it. Did it make you feel better?

Um, with a name like deerfartinwoods, I really don't expect much, but, DANG! your grammar, spelling, etc. is terrible! It's so ironic that at a time when there are so many posts about cutting education $ you leave that post! If you are/were locally educated, I think we all would agree that we're falling far too short!

PEOPLE OF GORDON CO. Thank about the Fire Station and the G.S.P Facility on Beiwood RD.that was constructed in 2001 and remember ALL the problem with THAT Facility it was a nightmare for about a year and half now from that alone should make the people of gordon co. stand up and shout no more until county commissioners can tell the people the real numbers and i mean total for the TURN KEY down to the tollit papper and the projected yearly cost to opperate this facility per year ALSO the REAL NUMBERS ON REVENUE.CAN ANY ONE GIVE THE PEOPLE THAT MUCH BEFORE SIGNING THE DOTTED LINE ON SUCH ? AND CAN COMMISSIONERS PLEASE!PLEASE!USE THE GENERAL COTRACTORS IN GORDON CO. FOR THIS PROJECT DON'T SUB IT OUT OF TOWN THE SAME WAY IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFOR LIKE IN 2001? REMEMBER IT WAS HARD TO GET THE COMPANY TO COME BACK TO CORRECT PROBLEMS WITH THAT FACILITY EVEN AFTER GONDON CO.HAD BEEN OVER CHARGED FOR SUCH POOR WORKMENSHIP WHAT WAS IT 200 THOUSAND DOLLARS? TO FIX THE MISTAKES BEFOR MOVING INTO IT. NOT THE WIGHT TIME FOR SUCH A PROJECT PASS IT UP AND LET THE STATE DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH THE MONEY.

Article reports - "...Jefferson Davis Memorial Historic Site in Irwin County. ...loss of $105,696."

County Administrator dufus Dowling and Chairman never wrong Long counter:

Dowling, ... says the battlefield park is an exciting project.

The visitors center will “be the hub in the spoke” ..."

“The board is wrestling with this,” Dowling says.

“If we don’t move forward then the state will move it to other projects,” says Long.

It's awful Alvin

"There has been no study on the expected visitors and economic impact of Resaca Battlefield."

No study yet A. Long and B. Grubbs expect a $3 to $4 million per year windfall. How do you suppose these two came up with these numbers. You would think people in these positions of spending the taxpayers money would put just a little more effort into finding out what they are getting us into and just a little more effort into making sure they are telling the truth rather than guessing. Seems to me they don't take their responsibility very seriously.

Who's lying, Kim Hatcher or the commissioners. Hatcher say's there never was $5 million like the commissioners claim. Have the commissioners already been caught trying to pull the wool over our eyes like they did when they "forgot" to add the furnishings to the price of the jail? They think they can maintain the Battlefield Park for $100,00. to $200,00. It cost $145,000. for electricity alone for the Sonoraville Rec. The Sonoraville Rec. also has 14 employee's at a cost of $609,984. The Sonoraville Rec. is 30 acres compared to Resaca Battlefield's 600. The budget for the Sonoraville Rec is $1,140,739.00. Surely they don't expect us to believe them when they say they can maintain the Resaca Battlefield for $200,00.

Soybeans maybe? Landfill ? Will the local taxpayers get in free or will they have to pay the user fee too?
