In a joint effort with the Georgia State Patrol Post 43, Gordon County Sheriff’s Deputies have put a fugitive behind bars.

According to Sheriff Mitch Ralston:

A Georgia State Trooper from State Patrol Post 43 in Calhoun in initiated a traffic stop of a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am automobile on Interstate 75 in Whitfield County near the Whitfield/Gordon County line Wednesday night.

The passenger in the vehicle had been reported as having been abducted in Knox County, Tenn., earlier that same date. The driver of the vehicle, one Robert Collins Jr., 44, of 525 Atlantic Avenue, Knoxville, was taken into custody after information was obtained from Knox County authorities that charges would be filed against him in Tennessee.

Collins has been charged with "aggravated kidnapping" and "domestic assault" in Knox County, and is being held in the Gordon County Jail as a Fugitive From Justice (from Tennessee), pending extradition proceedings.

The Sheriff's Office reacted to this incident in response to the State Patrol and Gordon County deputies made the arrest.

The alleged kidnapping did not occur in this jurisdiction, and does not involve anyone from Gordon County. The name and gender of the victim have not been released. The incident is not being investigated by the Sheriff's Office.

No Sheriff's Office personnel or automobiles were involved in any pursuit with Collins' vehicle.
