After months of preparation and research the Gordon County HPC (Historical Preservation Committee) members were finally able to present their collaborated work to the local Historian Society and the Gordon-Calhoun Public Library.

The HPC, along with the consulting firm, MACTEC identified 468 potential historic homes within Gordon County.

“We also put together a brief history of each home,” said HPC chairman Ken Padgett.

Many of these homes are examples of historic architecture.

All of the information was placed in a disc and given to the library ad the Historian Society.

“This will be helpful,” said library director Dianne Cronon.

Cronon said the records can be used when library patrons come into the library to search for genealogy.

“We are also working to put all of the obituaries on disk,” she said.

The information will be uploaded to the Georgia Historic Preservation Division Web page. Padgett said none of the information on the Web site pertaining to Gordon County had been updated since the 1990’s.

“We are really proud of this project,” he said.
