One Gordon County man was life-flighted and four local residents were injured in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in front of W.L. Swain Elementary on Hwy. 53.
According to Georgia State Patrol’s Cpl. John Barnette of Calhoun:
Perry Johnson, 80, of Dorsey Street in Calhoun, was airlifted by helicopter to Erlanger hospital from the injuries sustained from a wreck when his Monte Carlo struck a Mercury Villager.
The passenger Ann Johnson, along with the driver of the minivan Ashley Pierce, 27, and two passengers whose names authorities are not releasing, were transported to Gordon Hospital for treatment.
According to Barnette, the Monte Carlo was traveling east on Miller Ferry Road around 3 p.m. and crossed onto Hwy. 53.
“The Monte Carlo entered the path of Mini Van that was traveling south (on Highway 53),” Barnette said.
The impact sent the Monte Carlo spinning into a ditch by the southbound lane.
First responders on the scene contacted Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for a life-flight helicopter; meantime, Gordon EMS triaged the others injured in the wreck.
Johnson was the most seriously injured in the wreck, and he was extracted from his vehicle by local firefighters.
Officers said they were unsure if any charges would be filed.
The wreck shut down the right southbound lane of Hwy. 53 for approximately an hour. Emergency workers cleared the scene around 4 p.m.
