Two people have been arrested, and are currently in the Gordon County jail after a Sunday morning traffic stop.

Jimmy D. “Squinch” Gravitt, 60, of 402 Main Street, Cedartown and Evelyn Greene, 49, of 30 Simp-son Road, White, Ga., were both arrested by sheriff’s deputies after drugs were discovered in their vehicle.

According to Sheriff Mitch Ralston, Gravitt and Greene were pulled over for a traffic violation on Dews Pond Road in Calhoun shortly after midnight. Upon inspection of their late model Pontiac Firebird, the deputy discovered several ounces of professionally packaged, high-grade methamphetamine, along with electronic scales and other paraphernalia.

Gravitt, a former Gordon County resident, was on federal supervised release following a drug related conviction. Gravitt was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and related offenses.

Greene is on state probation following a Bartow County drug offense. She was also charged with trafficking in methamphetamine.

Both are being held in the Gordon County Jail pending court proceedings.

"It is often the investigation of seemingly minor offenses which leads us to the major violations", said Ralston. “I encourage the public to continue to support the deputies and detectives in their efforts to combat the distribution of illegal drugs here in our community. The 'partnership' and trust my staff has with our citizens is the most effective weapon in this battle."

Anyone who judges someone else with no more information than a newspaper article is scum themselves. You should be ashamed of yourself, no mattert what this man has done his family doesn't need to see comments like yours.

My Grandfather is not a "scum". He has made mistakes. We all have. What is the difference in him sinning and you sinning. There is no difference in God's eyes. No one has the right to judge anyone. The police are cleaning up the streets and i'm proud of them for that. I'm also happy that i'm grandpa is off the streets and i don't have to worry about him...but no one wants to lose their grandfather to something like this. He has been in this all his life and i really do wish he could change but don't judge him.

Once again,,,the law enforcement officials have done an outstanding job.I have lived in several,Atlanta area communities and this is the only one where I have felt safe. After living in Cartersville for 10 years,it was a relief,to move to a community, where not only law enforcement was this active, but the citizens are also doing their part at helping those officials. The crime element has taken over in Cartersville, and that's not from a first hand observation, but from the mouths of the officers of the sheriffs dept and the local PD.When I first moved to Calhoun in 2007,we had an incident in my neighborhood, the reponse time from the the Calhoun Police Dept, was just short of the speed of light.Within minutes of the crime being perpetrated, the officers were on the scene and making an arrest which made me feel safer than I have felt in 10 years. The men and women of the the Sheriffs dept and the Calhoun Police dept, need, not only be applauded, but commended for their outstanding service to this community. The job that they do,is more often than not, taken for granted.I just wish there was more that I could do to show them my gratitude. All I can say is,that I sleep a whole lot better, knowing that they are standing watch, and that in the event, that I need their services, they are there to help within seconds of a phone call.Again,,,thanks to all of the law enforcement community, for making Calhoun a great place to live and work.
