The roads are turning icy in many areas around Calhoun — including Dalton, Chatsworth and Ellijay. Some snow and sleet are expected in Gordon County this weekend.

Interstate 75 North from mile 330 to 337 will be closed due to ice. The highway should reopen on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, there is a 100 percent chance of snow, with a low around 36 degrees, around 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. Friday. The local area could accumulate as much as 3 inches of snow. Gusty winds are expected to be between 10 and 15 miles per hour, with gusts reaching as high as 20 mph.

Flurries will continue Saturday, with a low of 24. Weather will clear by Sunday with a high of 45 and sunny skies, with winds of 5 mph.

Mohawk employees were sent home early due to the weather conditions at several locations in our area, officials stated. Commuters should expect stalls on the interstate, as well as, icy and sleet covered areas.
