Eight students qualify for state competition

Sixteen members and one adviser of Gordon Central chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) participated in the Region Leadership Conference. Gordon Central competitors earned 12 awards.

The conference took place Jan. 20, at Ringgold High School in Ringgold. Sheila Yarbrough, FBLA adviser, attended the conference with members. She was responsible for preparing competitors for their diverse events.

The conference featured three types of competitions. The first was online, objective style tests; the second was production tests; and the third type included performance tests.

Eight members qualified for state competitions. Among the winners were: Manan Brahmbhatt and Brandon Scoggins, business ethics — first place; Puja Patel, computer applications — first place; Jared Hefner, spreadsheet applications — first place; Trevor Dutton, business communications — second place; Diana Rodriguez, public speaking II — third place; Jeremy Stansell, economics — third place; Brandon, intro to tech concepts — third place; Kevin Darnell, personal finance — fourth place; and Brittany Highfield, Jeremy Stansell, and Ashley Williams, emerging business issues — third place.

It was announced that Gordon Central won first place in the Monopoly tournament for March of Dimes at the state level fall leadership conference.

Other members competing included Aya Altamimi, Karla Arreaga, Briggs Garland, Heaven Lingle, Twinkal Patel and Catlin Townsend. By competing, these members also earned points toward the chapter of the year.
