Nash Nance de-commited from Vanderbuilt last night in his home during a visit from the Commodores head coach Bobby Johnson. Nance said the visit was an "emotional" one. Below is a state released by Nash Nance through his father Mike:
"First of all Id like to state that Vanderbilt, Coach Johnson, and all his staff, players and recruits are all top notch people and players. It was a difficult decision for me but I told Coach Johnson last night after a visit in my home that I was de-committing from Vanderbilt. It was very emotional for me and my family. I think the world of Coach Cain who was there as well and QB coach Kiser. But after visiting Tennessee on Jan 22,23 and hours of prayer I feel that Tennessee is a better fit for me."
"Coach Dooley has all the confidence in me and my abilities. Coach Dooley had already broken down my Jr and Sr film and he really likes my abilities and future as a Vol. Coach Dooley was so easy to talk to and he is very driven. He is a man of integrity like his Father. I truly felt that I could go see Coach Dooley anytime with any issue. Personal or Football related. That is very important to me. In my opinion the Vol nation has a new head coach with integrity, extreme drive to be succesful, and a common man that all young athletes will relate too and will love going to battle with every Saturday."
"Coach Chaney was the lead guy that recruited me. He and I hit it off from the beginning. Knowing he coached the great Purdue offenses and QB's Drew Brees and Kyle Horton is exciting. And his years of pro experience."
"Lastly my postion coach Hinshaw is a perfect fit for me. Great ex player and he loved my abilities and work ethic. I already practice some of his teaching principles."
"Also most importantly UT had everything I wanted academically. The new Haslam Business Bldg blew me away! I am so relieved and blessed to have this opportunity to play football for the University of Tennessee!"
Nance completed 203-of-297 passes last year for 3,017 yards and 29 touchdowns. He had only eight interceptions. He also ran the ball 78 times for 359 yards, 4.26 yards per carry.
There is no word yet as to whether Da'Rick Rogers will honor his verbal commitment to UGA or follow in his best friends footsteps and head to Tennessee.
Rogers is a five star recruit who had 84 catches for 1,647 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.
Calhoun Head Coach Hal Lamb said he was informed by Nance of his decision last night.
Official signing day is Wednesday.
