Gordon County Sheriff’s deputies arrested one man after for filing a false report, Wednesday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Flying J truck stop in Resaca.
A truck driver, identified as Keith Edward Fennidy, 43, of 391 Pond Weed Drive, Lawrenceville, Ga., reported to detectives that he had been robbed at gunpoint by a white male.
Fennidy reported that he had contracted with the man to provide him with computer repair work.
Fennidy claimed to have met the man via the internet. Fennidy furnished the detectives and deputies with a license plate number of the automobile he claimed the man had been driving.
Gordon County detectives were able to quickly track and locate the suspect in Dalton. The suspect was questioned and released after the investigating officers determined that the original report was false.
After a second interview with Fennidy, detectives determined that the entire episode had been fabricated. Fennidy was arrested and charged with hindering law enforcement officers, false report of a crime, and giving false statements in an official matter. Detectives said that Fennidy had a previous criminal record.
"Excellent detective work allowed us to resolve this matter quickly, and avoid having an innocent young person charged with a very serious crime. I am confident that our court system will adjudicate this matter in a stern manner,” said Sheriff Mitch Ralston
The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office and Dalton Police assisted Gordon County in this investigation.
Fennidy is being held in the Gordon County Jail pending bond proceedings.
