Calhoun student completes BPC degree requirements



Jurbien Bedford Byrd of Calhoun graduated from Brewton-Parker College, Mount Vernon, Ga., with a bachelor of arts degree in sports and fitness Dec. 1, 2009, announced Dr. T. Ronald Melton, provost. Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.

Locals graduate from New York college

Two Adairsville residents recently graduated from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y.

Dona S. Baker and Bobby Vallon Hice both earned Associate in Science in Nursing degrees from the New York college.

Excelsior College (www.excelsior.edu) is an accredited, private, nonprofit institution that focuses on the needs of working adults.

Founded in 1971 and located in Albany, N.Y., it is accredited by the Commission on Higher Edu-cation of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

VSU Announces Graduates and Dean's List for Fall 2009

Valdosta State University has announced the names of students from fall 2009 who earned the aca-demic status of dean's list. Included on that list was Jessica Diann Naranjo, of Calhoun.

To make the dean's list, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and must have a semester GPA of at least 3.5 with at least nine hours of course work. GPA requirements are based on a 4.0 scale.

Local students named to Reinhardt’s dean list

Thirteen students from Gordon County are among the 348 students named to the Reinhardt Col-lege Dean's List for fall semester 2009.

The Gordon County students are Christopher Bunch, Julia Cook, Kelly Dembicki, Jayme Dodd, Hailey Housley, Jason LeBoeuf, Dewayne Payne, Tabitha Payne, Heather Tatham, Crystal Thomas, Jessica Waters, Gwendolyn Yarbrough and Leslie Zuidema.

A Reinhardt Dean's List student must maintain a 3.5 grade-point average based on successful completion of a minimum of 12 semester credits with no grade less than a B.
