A Rome man was arrested Thursday after a short foot chase as he tried to get away from officers who were serving him with arrest warrants.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Floydell Watters Jr., 38, of 206 Cooper Drive, was arrested by Rome police around 4:30 p.m. He was charged with one count of felony theft by shoplifting, three counts of misdemeanor theft by shoplifting and obstruction of law enforcement.

Rome police went to 617 Martha Berry Blvd. to serve Watters with the shoplifting arrest warrants. He ran from officers to try to avoid arrest, but he was caught after a short pursuit behind some restaurants on Martha Berry Boulevard.

Warrants stated that between Dec. 23, 2009 and Jan. 9, Watters went to the AT&T business several times and took wireless devices from the store. The value of the items was listed at more than $1,200.

He remains in jail without bail due to a probation violation and a hold from Gordon County authorities.
