A group of residents trying to oust Fairmount City Council Member Linda Sledge Johnson obtained enough signatures to get a hearing with a Superior Court judge on the matter.

According to the application for recall (click here to view the pdf), Johnson is accused of "behavior unbecoming of a city councilman (with) city employee resulting in her resigning. Misuse of donated items for 2008 Mayors Motorcade. Continued harassment to businesses (sic) resulting in lost revenue for the city; including personal problems (with) business (sic) owners. Has not paid '08 county taxes as of 1-5-09. Sued city for atty. fees resulting from a previous suit which resulted in city taxpayers having to pay atty. fees for both suits."

Shirlee A. Boots, of Fairmount signed as the petition chairperson. A message left on her work voice mail was not returned.

Johnson said that the action is a personal vendetta.

"I strongly deny any and all of the allegations made against me. I have done the best to my ability to serve the citizens of Fairmount," said Johnson.

According to the Gordon County Tax Commissioner's Web site, Johnson has been paying on her 2008 taxes per an arrangement she made in August 2009 with the office.

As usual, Fairmount makes front page news for the wrong reasons. Apparently, the people behind this recall don't mind if we look like a redneck little town. Ms. Johnson sued the city for attorney fees and caused the city to pay for two lawsuits. If she hadn't won the first time she couldn't have done that. What would they have done? The city employee that resigned was not satisfied with the job from the start. Do we want an employee that hates her job? The business that left town had other options, like using their own easment to put in a road. Bet they make more money in the new location than they did in Fairmount. I think if you are going to sign a recall petition, you must have voted in that election, not just decide you don't like the outcome later. If Ms. Johnson is successfully recalled, how much in revenue will that cost taxpayers to hold a vote and another election? That is not what I want my tax dollars to go to. The people behind the recall should find something more constructive to do, in my opinion. For instance, the city has a vacant lot across from the Tate Park with some flowers stuck in it. It reminds you of a pet cemetary. Don't know if any city funds were used for that; I sure hope not. When you feel like throwing stones at your elected council members, go there and do a little beautification work while you wonder if you have any stones of your own to dodge.

I have to agree with RecognisingBS. And I RESENT it being ASSUMED that I'm a "stranger" because I have a differing opinion than the other "50%". That in itself is typical of the mentality of the Fairmount Good Ole Boys... "If you ain't WITH us, then you're against us!"...

As I said before, and you have again prooved, you will stop at NOTHING to get your way.

Too bad for Fairmount - a beautiful little community unable to move forward because of the backward blindness that "RULES".

IT SAYS NOTHING ABOUT HER; but, SAYS EVERYTHING, about small-town-lynch-mob mentality. Part of this woman's problem is that she has stepped "out of bounds" of the limmited "permission" that was granted her as a public servant, but even less, as a woman. I've watched this kind of behavior from Fairmount residents on many occasions. She may have committed some "unpopular" acts, but I'm pretty sure that her biggest fault is being smarter than everyone else around her - including King Alvin, et al. For that, naturally she'd have to be put back "in her place." GOSSIP is the fuel that makes 50% of the town upset with her - as usual. It's true - some things never change!

I have personally witnessed several episodes of unbecoming behavior by our councilwoman Johnson. Although difficult to fathom by strangers, her actions are well known to our townspeople and these allegations are neither exaggerated nor incorrectly reported. If this is a vendetta, then she has managed to annoy at least 50% of the population into participating. What does this say about her?

The "good ole boys" in Fairmount are at it again... take if from one who's seen them "in action" before.

Linda Johnson has ruffled their feathers because their lawsuit against her was bogus, and in her having won, she was well within her rights, as a citizen of Fairmount, to sue for the court costs. The other "charges" are likely "trumped up" as well. However, they may have laid a trap and will swear to anything to get their way.

These people will stop at NOTHING until they can control everything within their reach.

"That's the way it's always been" seems to be their favorite line.

Most small town governments are corrupt, I have no idea about this particular case so I can't make judgement, but in most cases someone is paying someone to look the other way and to vote the way they want.

I believe that Linda is a outstanding grandmother and she serves her city well. She is very commented in doing the right for the city and goes by the books. The things that are said about her is no more then people judging the wrong person. Maybe they need to look at there selfs before throwing the frist stone. She has done nothing wrong then putting up with a lot of lies and wrongful doings. If you don't have anything better then that then you may need to get a job or a better hobbie.

QUESTION: FAVORITE HOBBY OF BEAUTIFUL 400 IN CALHOUN, GA? ANSWER: Ask Lance/McEntire and apparently, now, Ms. Johnson. HINT: It isn't reading! Yet another example of the fine, upstanding citizens of Calhoun/Gordon County. Somehow, there's always a bed involved behind the scenes.

They are going after the wrong person. Recall King Alvin and his little friend too!
