School closings have push back the start of the Area 7-AA Wrestling Tournament to Saturday. Originally the tournament was set to kick off Friday afternoon at Gordon Central but as weather conditions became worse throughout the day Thursday, several schools were forced to go ahead and cancel classes and sporting events for Friday

Saturday the area wrestling tourney will kick off between 9 and 9:30 a.m. GC Head Coach Jeff Jackson hopes to get the entire tourney in on Saturday but if that is not possible then the competition will continue Monday at 9 a.m.

Sonoraville High School will look to defend its championship from last year’s tourney. Head Coach Eric Elrod is not worried about the change and believes that it will actually help out.

“I don’t think it really changes a whole lot, it just pushes the tournament back a day,” Elrod said. “It gives us another day to rest and with everyone so focuses on getting their time and work in, getting a day to rest like this may actually help out.”

Both the Calhoun City Schools and the Gordon County Schools have canceled classes for Friday.

The Sonoraville basketball game has also been canceled and will be made up Jan. 23 starting at 4 p.m.

Calhoun basketball games for Friday have been canceled as well.
