Community members can choose to make a Christmas tree the gift that keeps on giving by recycling it.

The City of Calhoun Recycling Center, located on 215 Pine St., will accept Christmas trees for recycling. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Trees should be left behind the fenced area of the Recycling Center, officials say.

The City of Calhoun Streets and Sanitation Department will help recycle the trees by supplying a wood chipper and operator to grind the trees into mulch, said supervisor Jackie Burns of the City of Calhoun Street Department.

For those who live within the city limits of Calhoun, the street department will pick up Christmas trees that are left near the street curb of city residents’ addresses and haul them to the Calhoun Recycling Center.

For street side pick-up, city residents need to call 706-629-6030.
