ATLANTA (AP) — Former Secretary of State Karen Handel blasted the culture of "sex, lies and lobbyists" that has held sway at the Georgia Capitol under the rule of her fellow Republicans.

Handel — who's running to become the state's first female governor — pledged to end the "cycle of abuse and corruption" under the gold dome. She said for too long legislation has passed or failed on the strength of campaign contributions and pricey dinners.

Handel delivered the rebuke at a fundraiser Tuesday in Atlanta before about 250 female supporters. It was seen as the first salvo in the crowded 2010 race for governor.

Ethics has taken center stage at the Capitol following the resignation of House Speaker Glenn Richardson after a suicide attempt and allegations of an affair with a utility lobbyist.

If the Rs had not done such a bad job when in power they would still be there. They talk a good game but don't do what they talk. When the Ds do a bad job they will be bashed, like I say there is no difference.

Check out the Handel's qualifications. These pledges she is making are just pandering for votes by telling people what they want to hear.

Not much different with the other runners, we need sharp educated people that have plans to deal with the problems of our state, county, city or country. Sorry but a polical union means they are sold out already.

I am not a civil war buff, my Great Great Grandfather fought for his state and country, but I happen to disagree with that stance. So economist where do you get your info? Republicans are evil, mean and just plain crooked much more than most Democrats, check jesusnorepublican.org if you dont believe me; the party is full of hypocrites and liars, and criminals.

RobertELee and CommonSenseAgitator (CSA) are very like minded. Hmm... CSA (Conferderate States of America) and R E Lee. It would appear that they each are civil war buffs and Republican bashers. Wonder what else they have in common?

Doesn't matter what party she's in. This state runs on traditional values, so there's no way they'll let a woman take charge.

Republican logic. It makes no sense whatsoever

I'm a independent, so I think the Rs and the Ds are the same, one is just sweeter than the other.

A republican woman told me once she wouldn't vote for Gore because Clinton had an affair -- Clinton wasn't running -- what kind of logic is that?

Check out jesusnorepublican.org if you want to compare sins, then you'll see there is no comparison. Republicans are corrupt to the core, evil and mean

Theres no way a republican on a state or national level can avoid being corrupt, it's in their blood and it's part of the party's tradition
